Disposal chests are chests that will delete any item that is placed into them, or moved into them with a regular hopper. Since they work with hoppers, disposal chests are useful for automatically disposing overflow items in automatic farms, so that the items are not left floating on the ground.

Creating a Disposal Chest

Disposal chests are easy to make, simply rename a regular chest "Disposal" in an anvil. Place the chest, and you should see that the GUI is named "Disposal".

Using Disposal Chests

Any item that you place in a disposal chest will be permanently removed when you close the chest GUI. Any item that a hopper transfers into a disposal chest will be removed instantly upon leaving the hopper.

Overflow Disposal

With crop hoppers and disposal chests, it is easy to automatically dispose of "overflow" items that do not fit into your linked storage.

There are two slightly different ways to set up overflow disposal.

The first method is to have your crop hopper lead into a disposal chest. The crop hopper will only fill up when the linked chests are full, so once your linked chests are full, the crop hopper will collect the overflow items, and move them into the disposal chest, like a regular hopper. This setup should be used for farms with multiple crop hoppers, since it will reduce the amount of time that overflow items have to wait to be removed.

The second method is to add an extra chest to your linked storage chests, specifically for overflow items, with a hopper under it leading into a disposal chest. Once your linked storage chests fill, the items picked up by the crop hopper will go into the new chest, and then into the disposal chest.
