Overview
Player Shops are regions in spawn that players can rent to buy and sell items. You can get to the player shops with /shops or /warp shops. There are a limited number of shops available, and players who own them must follow the shop rules in order to maintain access to their shop. Shops can only be rented up to 7 days in advance, so players must remember to keep up on the rent.
If you are selling a shop to another player you can get a mod or higher to middleman the trade to prevent being scammed, but this is not required.
Rules
General rules for shop owners can be found in-game with /shoprules. Once you acquire a shop you have up to 24 hours to set it up.
- Shops must be selling 3 different items minimum, at a reasonable price and be restocked fairly regularly.
- Store rank kit items (VIP/VIP+/MVP/MVP+/MVP++ tools, armour, etc.) do not count towards this three item minimum.
- Shops may only have a total of 8 entities (notably item frames and armour stands) and/or player and mob heads.
- If your shop is selling map art, you may exceed this limit to have item frames displaying the map art. However, these item frames still count towards the total.
- Scamming or other tricks in shops are not allowed. Items sold cannot be intentionally misleading about their use or affect, whether that is by their name or how they are advertised.
- Seeds and chemlab materials that do not appear in /chems can be sold in shops (The exception to this rule is Cocobinide and raw cactus, which is not allowed to be sold).
- Once your shop is set up it must be accessible at all times. Do not wall off your shop, or build it in a way that can cause a player to get stuck inside it.
- The use of redstone in shops except for lighting or decoration is not allowed. Please get approval from an admin before building any other redstone machines in your shop.
- Shop decorations must stay within your shop region (the area you can build in) Decorations that aren't allowed include, but are not limited to, beacon trails, or flowing water and lava that leaves your region.
- You may not have chem farms in your shop. You may create crops for decoration, but not for the purpose of harvesting.
- You may only own shop slabs in your own shop, and up to one other shop that is not owned by you.
- You may not drain a player's balance by selling to their shop before renting the shop for yourself and taking the items.
- Abusing the build region in your shop in any way will result in a ban and the loss of your shop.
Shop Owner Activity and Stocking
Due to the high demand and limited number of playershops, shop owners are expected to actively maintain their shops and play the server.
If a shop owner is solely logging on to extend their rent, or are found to be otherwise inactive on the server over a period of time their shop will be forcibly unrented after reasonable notice is given via /mail in-game. What is considered to be inactive will be up to staff interpretation, though at minimum it must span several weeks.
Sometimes periods of inactivity are unavoidable. If a shop owner finds themselves unable to maintain their shop it will be their responsibility to add additional players to their shop region (/as addfriend [username]) to maintain it in their place. If a shop owner has done this and the player(s) they add to the shop fails to maintain it the warning mail will still go to the shop owner.
Shop Creation
To create a shop:
- Place a barrel in your shop region
- Put the item you would like to buy or sell into the barrel.
- Place a sign on or above the barrel, and put the following on the sign:
<leave blank> <quantity> B <buy price> : S <sell price> ?
Quantity is the amount that the customer buys or sells per transaction (click).
Buy Price is the price that the customer pays to buy quantity of the of the item.
Sell price is the price that you pay when the customer sells quantity of the item.
You do not need to have both a buy and a sell price - you can do only one, or either.
The following is outdated but will be relevant again once we return to Display shops:
Once you have rented a shop, you can then create a shop block to be used in the shop. To create a shop block:
- Craft a shop block with a chest and oak sign.
- Place the block in your shop.
- Sneak + right-click with a single item in your hand to set the shop to buy/sell that item.
- Right-click the shop to manage it.
- Make sure to set the buy and/or sell price.
- Stack size is the number that players buy/sell at a time for the price you set (make sure it's 1 for single items!).
