2025 Season

The 2025 Season is here! This post will be an overview of the big changes we've made.

The new map will open at 6PM EST (when this post is an 1.5 hours old).

Before getting into the changes, I'd like to thank everyone who helped out with everything that went into the new map. Planning, building, and testing the new map and all the major changes took hundreds of hours, and it couldn't have been done without lots of help!

Server Version and New Spawn

For this season, we've updated to Minecraft 1.21.5. Due to some limitations, you'll need to be on at least Minecraft 1.21 to join the new season. The update comes with all the new additions to the game - the only thing we've disabled is crafters. The resource world (/warp resource) has been re-generated and will have all the new terrain and blocks.

If you've played MCLabs for a few years, you may recognize the new Spawn world. We've revamped the popular 2020 Spawn, with a new theme. The island has become overgrown as wealth inequality has decimated the local population. Now controlled by the big-pharma MCLabs Corp., the area is a strictly controlled shipping zone for their pharmaceutical products. The underground chem trade is still alive though, and the Federation of Free Chemists operates on the island, employing smugglers to run chems to their dealers, for transport off the island. But MCLabs Corp. keeps a tight watch on the streets with their police force, patrolling for anyone trying to smuggle chems.

Chem Purity and Compound Changes

We've introduced an entirely new mechanic into the Chem Lab: Chem Purity. You can now use mob drop items to create new ingredients which can be used to purify your compounds while crafting them in /lab. Purifying your chems gives them a boost to value, prestige progress, and/or score when they are sold. Check out /lab in-game for more details!

We've made a few changes to compound recipes and bonuses:
  • Added Chorberrium (chorus and sweetberry), Whearootinide (wheat and beetroot), and Glorootinide (glowberries and beetroot)
  • Adjusted the compound ratios for Wheacobinide and Wheacactinide.
  • Hay bales and bread can no longer be sold.
  • Removed Sweerootinide and Chorootinide.
  • Pumpkins in compounds are now worth 2x pumpkin seeds instead of 3x.
  • Smelted chems now get a +15% value bonus (previously +10%)
  • Changed compound pricing bonus scheme: now no bonus for auto/auto compounds, +5% for auto/manual, and +10% for manual/manual.

Worlds

The Overworld

Everything in the Overworld should be working the same as last season.

As promised, this world is carried over from last season. However, to keep things fair, the world has been "cleansed", which included:
  • Clearing all stored items.
  • Removing any entities that can hold items (item frames, chest minecarts, allays, foxes, etc.). Items frames with maps will remain.
  • Removing all crops.
  • Replacing farmland with coarse dirt, and sand/dirt beneath sugar cane and cactus with sandstone.
  • Removing specific types of valuable blocks.
We triggered cleansing for most of the towns already, but some unclaimed areas may have been missed. These will be cleansed as soon as you enter the area. If you see your farm vanish in front of you, this is why! Don't worry though, this cleansing will only happen once for an area. Anything new will be safe.

The Underworlds

As performance was a frequent issue in the Underworld last season, we've opened a second Underworld. Now, we have Underworld-A and Underworld-B. The two worlds are functionally the same - they're just split onto different server instance to balance load.

Each company will have a "base underworld". This is the underworld that they can claim in. Once they are in an underworld, they can not claim in the other underworld. If you're in a large, established company, your company's base world has been pre-assigned to balance load. If your company doesn't have an underworld assigned, you will be assigned to the first underworld that you claim land in.

Other Changes

We've made a ton of small changes and improvements this season, here are some notable ones, in no particular order:
  • Re-introduced Dog Fights at The Lion Stock Exchange.
  • Company power is no longer lost when enrolling/resigning from police (i.e. your power is now the total of your chem + police rank power).
  • Point voucher coupon codes are now automatically generated and sent as soon as you redeem them.
  • Chat displays now use /display instead of [chat tags] (you're welcome, gore)
  • Added police horse speed boost ability, and buffed some other existing abilities.
